What's new in the Developer Center

The Get Started with the Skilljar MCP Server course has a new Extra Credit section with three optional lessons for when you're ready to go further:

The v1 API lesson moved here from Customize Skilljar with AI, so if you saved the old link it'll bring you to the new one.

The eighth Live Configurator, and the first one built for the inside of a lesson instead of a page. Pick a callout, tabs, numbered steps, key takeaways, or a "before you start" box, fill it in, and paste the code into your lesson's HTML source editor.

Every copy gets its own ID, so you can drop as many components into one lesson as you need. It's also the first builder where Import code brings back your style and spacing settings along with the content.

The homepage opens on AI enablement, with both courses and the context file under the hero. The "Start here" ribbon is gone, and course and template tiles are clickable edge to edge.

The AI templates moved below it, with a new tile for suggesting one. The bottom section takes ideas, feedback, or bug reports.

The seventh Live Configurator, for the one part of a course none of the others cover: the end of it. It builds a congratulations header, a "What You Learned" checklist, and a row of cards recommending what to take next, in four layouts: a standard stacked layout, a simple thank-you with a single button, two columns side by side, or a single compact column.

There's no built-in certificate or feedback layout. Skilljar generates each learner's certificate link per enrollment, and a feedback layout needs a real survey behind it, so neither can be wired up from a static template. Add the finished code as an optional final lesson, or the last block of your last one.

Your assistant now knows where each thing you build belongs in the dashboard, which is the most common reason a paste looks like it did nothing. It also learned four more mistakes that throw no error and look fine in a preview: a closing script tag hidden inside a JavaScript string, a stray terminator inside a CSS comment, line clamping inside a flex card, and full-bleed banners that grow white gutters on a wide monitor.

There's a version line at the top now, so you can ask your assistant which copy it's working from. If you've connected the Skilljar MCP, it'll also write straight into Skilljar rather than handing you code to move across yourself.

Worth grabbing again if you pasted an earlier copy.

The MCP grew from around 18 tools in beta to 73, and there wasn't anywhere to see that. This page lists every tool the MCP supports today, grouped into 15 areas, with a plain-language description and an example of how to ask for it. Quizzes, publishing, reporting, and certificates are all new since the beta.

The context block used to exist in a few places with slightly different wording, so it wasn't obvious which copy was current. There's now one version, and every copy button on the site hands you the same text. If you pasted an older one, grab it again.

Every configurator has an "Import code" button that reads a block you already generated and refills the form so you can keep editing it. In Hero Builder, Footer Builder, and Course Description Builder it was quietly skipping colors, spacing, and font sizes whenever you'd picked a Google Font, so you'd get your text back but not your styling.

That's fixed. Import now restores the whole configuration. Nothing you already pasted into your site needs to change.

A four-lesson course for connecting an AI assistant directly to your Skilljar instance. It covers what an MCP actually is in plain language, what you can do with the Skilljar one, step-by-step setup for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot, and ten prompts worth trying on day one.

You don't need to be technical for this one, and you don't need to write any code.

The six builders had drifted apart, so a control you'd learned in one wasn't necessarily in the next. They now all have font-size controls for every piece of text, spacing controls below every element, and a hover color for buttons. Colors moved to the top of the Style tab and opens expanded, since that's what most people reach for first.

Every field also picked up a "?" tooltip explaining what it does, so you're not guessing at what "Section Margin" means.

Two more configurators. FAQ Accordion builds a collapsible question-and-answer section you can drop into a page, a course description, or a lesson. Announcement Banner is a bit different from the rest: it goes in your Theme's code snippet and runs sitewide, with controls for where it sits, who sees it, and how often it comes back.

Announcement Banner can target by URL path and by Group, including "everyone except these Groups," which is the version people usually want.

The builders were restyled onto one shared design so they read as a set, and the code view moved into a proper fullscreen panel instead of a cramped box you had to scroll inside. Each one also picked up a font picker with the common Google Fonts.

This one targets a spot the others don't: a course's Long description field. Five layouts to pick from, built from real examples we'd seen customers ask for. Learning objectives checklist, curriculum overview, prerequisites and audience, instructor bio, and an intro with an info grid.

Quick Links builds a row of cards, with six layout presets, info-only cards, and numbered steps. Footer Builder is the sitewide one: it outputs a single block for your Theme's Footer section, with a marketing layout and a support layout to start from.

Footer Builder gives every link its own "open in new tab" checkbox, and it guesses the right setting from the URL you type so you usually don't have to touch it.

The one that started the pattern. Instead of handing you a code block to find-and-replace, Hero Builder gives you a form on the left and a live preview on the right, and generates clean production code you paste into a page. Background can be a solid color, a gradient, an image, or an image with a tint, set independently of the layout.

The course the rest of the refresh hangs off. It starts by giving you a context file to paste into your AI assistant, then walks through making your first request, pasting the result into Skilljar without the editor mangling it, and keeping AI-built content maintainable after the fact.
